Hamlet Moral Philosophy Essay

Throughout Hamlet there is a moral conflict in regards to suicide. As the events of the play unfold Hamlet finds himself pondering whether or not life is worth living in such a decrepit world. Uncertainty keeps Hamlet from ending the pain of life, as well as his desire for revenge on Claudius. Periodically throughout the play Hamlet stops to contemplate his mortality and ending his life. Hamlet does this in his soliloquies, often about whatever event is happening right then as well as, as is his melancholic nature, thinking about whether life is worth living. In the famous â€Å"to be, or not to be†(3.1.56) speech, Hamlet is literally weighing the options between to be, or to live, or not to be, to die, and in the end he finds that the uncertainty of death makes â€Å"calamity of so long life†(3.1.69). Speeches like this and others throughout the play are prompted by Hamlet’s distress at all of the conflicts going on around him. These speeches are Hamlet’s innermost thoughts and so are intended for Hamlet as they are his reflection on the moral conflict he is facing. Hamlet’s soliloquies reflect his inner conflict as he reflects upon whether or not he should end his life and his suffering or live and continue to suffer through his pain. In Hamlet’s soliloquy in Act 3 Scene 1, or the â€Å"to be, or not to be† speech, Hamlet uses various rhetorical techniques to judge whether he should live or die. He uses imagery in this speech such as â€Å"The oppressor’s wrong, the proud man’s contumely† (3.1.71) to illustrate the pains which may be felt in the sleep of death which he is considering. Hamlet also uses repetition throughout the speech to emphasize his conflict between life and death, particular in reference to sleep as he says â€Å"To die, to sleep† (3.1.60&64), he does this to highlight his uncertainty at the idea of death, or what may be lurking thereafter, â€Å"what dreams may come†(3.1.66). Hamlet’s perspective on this moral conflict changes as he finds purpose in his revenge against Claudius and begins to see his plan come to fruition. In the beginning of the play, Hamlet seems to be contemplating suicide whereas at the end, Hamlet wants to live to see his revenge against Claudius completed.

Financial Careers Essay

What does the job involve? Well, it’s very varied, but basically fund-raisers organise special events like concerts and fun runs, ask governments for money, try to get support from local companies and organisations. Most major charities have fund-raising departments, which employ teams of workers. Some of these people do office work — others organise publicity, visit companies or arrange special events. Sounds interesting? Tycoon. A wealthy and powerful person in business or industry. If you are the independent, creative type, why not start your own business? Lots of people do these days. Some aren’t successful, of course, but plenty are —j and if you do succeed, the rewards of being your own boss can be. enormous. To become a business tycoon you need to have an original idea; be practical, reliable and well-organised; understand the business world; keep control of your finances. After that it’s all a question of hard work and luck, but then that’s the key to success in any job. Financial journalist. Financial journalists work in three main areas — newspapers, radio and television. Their job is to understand what’s happening in the financial world and explain it as quickly and accurately as possible. Economic journalists don’t just report today’s news, though. They need the ability to predict future events, too. â€Å"Will interest rates rise or fall? Will the stock market go up or down? And what about trade†¦ are exports going to increase or decrease? † To become a financial journalist you train as a general reporter first. Then you specialise in finance and economics. And when you’ve done that? Well, if you are lucky you’ll get a job in the media. One word of warning, though — financial journalism is a very competitive career. In Britain, for example, there are only 2,000 jobs available. Auctioneer. Two of the best-known auction houses in the world are Christie’s and Sotheby’s. The auctioneer who works there regularly sells famous paintings worth millions of pounds. But you’d be wrong to think that auctioneers just sell Rembrandts and Van Goghs. It’s much more varied career than that. Some auctioneers sell farm animals, for example. Others sell houses, antique furniture or even rock and roll ‘memorabilia’ (i. e. guitars, cars, clothes etc. , which ones belonged to pop stars). And what does it take to be a good auctioneer? Well, three qualities are absolutely essential — a calm personality, a quick mind and (last but not least) a strong voice. Dealer. Dealers work for companies which buy and sell foreign currencies, commodities like oil or steel. They work in large, noisy, rooms, called dealing rooms and do most of their business over the phone and on computer screens. The majority of them are under 35. The majority of them also earn very big salaries because their work involves huge amounts of pressure and responsibility. You don’t need a degree to be a dealer. What you do need, though, is talent, energy, confidence and ambition.

Cost and Southwestern University Essay

Southwestern University (SWU), located 30 miles southwest of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, has witnessed tremendous growth in its football program (see Southwestern University: A, in Chapter 4). With that growth, fueled by the hiring of legendary coach Bo Pitterno, has come more fame, the need for a bigger stadium, and more complaints about seating, parking, long lines, and concession stand prices (see Southwestern University: C, in Chapter 6). Southwestern University’s president, Dr. Joel Wisner, was not only concerned about the cost of expanding the existing stadium versus building a new stadium, but also about the ancillary activities. He wants to be sure that these various support activities generate revenue adequate to pay for themselves. Consequently, he wants the parking lots, game programs, and food service to all be handled as profit centers. At a recent meeting discussing the new stadium, Wisner told the stadium manager, Hank Maddux, to develop a break-even chart and related data for each of the centers. He instructed Maddux to have the food service area break-even report ready for the next meeting. After discussion with other facility managers and his subordinates, Maddux developed the table below. This table shows the expected percent of revenue by item, the suggested selling prices, and his estimate of variable costs. Item | Selling Price/Unit | Variable Cost/Unit | SalesUnits | Soft drink | $1.50 | $ .75 | 10000| Coffee | 2.00 | .50 | 5000 | Hot dogs | 2.00 | .80 | 2000| Hamburgers | 2.50 | 1.00 | 5000| Misc. snacks | 1.00 | .40 | 3000| Maddux’s fixed costs are interesting. He estimated that the prorated portion of the stadium cost would be: salaries for food services at $100,000 ($20,000 for each of the five home games); 2,400 square feet of stadium space at $2 per square foot per game; and six people in each of the six booths for 5 hours at $7 an hour. Maddux wants to be sure that he has a number of things for President Wisner: (1) break-even point in dollars for all food sales; (2) realistic sales estimates (for instance, he wants to know how many dollars each attendee is spending on each food item at his projected break-even if attendance grows to 70,000); (3) what sales per attendee would be if attendance remained about 27,000; and (4) what his unit sales would be at break-even, that is, what are his sales of soft drinks, coffee, hot dogs, and hamburgers. He felt this latter information would be helpful to understand how realistic the assumptions of his model are.

Budget Plan for the Heart Failure Clinic Assignment

Budget Plan for the Heart Failure Clinic - Assignment Example CDC states that heart failure is responsible for 55,000 deaths annually. Furthermore, CHF costs the nation a lot of money with analysts estimating the annual expenditure to $34 billion (Amakali, 2015). The authorial intent of this paper is therefore to establish, through use of evidence-based management practices, the best strategies for developing a budget plan geared towards establishing an effective Heart Failure Clinic. It is imperative for hospital administrators to work behind closed doors in order to ensure that hospitals' financial security and welfare is up to required standards. This implies that hospital administrators must identify those factors that if not well facilitated within the hospital budget plan may plunge the whole fraternity into financial crisis (Langenbrunner, Cashin, & O'Dougherty, 2009). Consequently, this business plan identifies the major categories and subcategories of the budget necessary for the set up of HFC. They include; Labor Costs, supplies and c apital expenses, insurance billing, research and teaching, liability costs et cetera. Some of the categories are discussed below.

Management Accounting and how it can be defined Essay

Management Accounting and how it can be defined - Essay Example In other words a more complex definition of Management Accounting expands the simple one and states that the process of providing the information required by management for planning, Organizing and controlling for goals such as: ïÆ'  Recording, Analyzing and reporting on the actual cost and inputs of products, services and processes in which we are very much concerned and which is also our first question ïÆ'  Working with starting cost, function, standard of performance, revenue and quantity budgets, which is related to our second and third questions, ïÆ'  Evaluating Alternative Opportunities, this is last and fourth question. Starting with our first question and second question simultaneously, we will find out the Total Fixed Cost, Contribution Margin, variable cost and Brake Even Point Andre is running a hair cutting saloon in which 5 Barbers work for him 40 hours/week, 50 weeks/year and being paid $9.90 per hour regardless of the number of the haircuts and every one who has a h air cut gets his hair washed so the charger for the shampoo or hair wash is assumed to be already included in it which will come under fixed cost by which his Fixed Cost per year will be $99,000 and $1,750 is the rent and other fixed expenses per month which again comes under Fixed cost by which his Total Fixed Cost per year will increase by $21,000 and the Total Fixed Cost will be $120,000/year and $10,000/month (this calculation is done on yearly ¬Ã‚ ¬Ã‚ ¬Ã¯Æ'  monthly basis). ... Yearlymonthly basis (this calculation is done generally). As we now have our T.F.C i.e. $120,000 we have to calculate Break Even Point i.e. how many haircuts should be done so that we get $120,000 and i.e. 10,000haircuts/year should be done so that we don't get a loss and that is our B.E.P in units. Here there is no Variable cost i.e. no such sort of charges which will increase or decrease the total cost.Moving to our 3rd question i.e. if 20,000 haircuts are performed what will be the Operating income (profit), as we have calculated before our T.F.C i.e. $120,000 which will not change if we do either 1or 10,000 Haircuts/year. Assuming that the cost for one hair cut $12 and if we do 20,000 haircuts our income will be $240,000 and now subtracting the total expenses or T.F.C i.e. $120,000 we get an Operating income i.e. a profit of $120,000. As we have assumed $12/haircut we have included the taxes, Wages, rent, all the fixed expenses, the cost of shampoo and other required material in it. After all this we get a good profit of $120,000 if the saloon works as mentioned i.e. 50weeks/year and the barbers work for 40hours/week. Now for supporting this statement one barber works 2000hours/year as per the calculation and has to do a Minimum of 2haircuts/hour, 80haircuts/week if he works 8hours/day, 5days/week which is again 40hours/week and in 50weeks he can do 4000haircut, if similar calculation is done for the other 4 Barbers our task for 20,000 haircuts will be achieved. In our 4th and last question Andre decides to pay in a revised or in a different way i.e. by decreasing the Wages/hour and giving money/haircut. Andre decides to pay $4/hour i.e. fixed cost and $6/haircut which is

Understanding the Economic Impact prior to Wells Fargo Foreclosures Essay

Understanding the Economic Impact prior to Wells Fargo Foreclosures - Essay Example As a result of the crisis, many institutions, including those that are not directly involved in lending collapsed while others merged to stabilize amidst the crisisIn 2007, United States was hit by financial crisis, which emanated from a crisis in the subprime real estate loans (commonly called subprime crisis). One of the financial institutions involved in mortgage lending that stood the crisis is Wells Fargo & company, although its rating dropped since 2007, in the light of the financial crisis. In response to the crisis, Wells Fargo & company and other companies increased foreclosure filings by 2008 to the highest record in historical. This paper provides an overview of the subprime lending industry and state the economy in Wisconsin just prior to subprime crisis and the Wells Fargo Foreclosures. Discussion Prior to 1980s, people in Wisconsin, US, had only two choices for obtaining a mortgage. According to Knapp (2010), one could obtain a home loan insured by either the Department of Veteran affairs or by the Federal Housing administration. Borrowers with good credits histories would typically obtain new loans from a bank, saving and loan or any other financial institution. Knapp (2010) elaborates that obtaining mortgage loans became much easier with the deregulation of the lending industries in the beginning of 1980. For instance, the monetary control act and the deregulation of the Depository institutions in 1980 removed the restrictions that imposed a ceiling on the interest rates charged on mortgage loans. One remarkable impact of the deregulation is that it led to the introduction of new mortgage loans, which included ‘adjustable rate mortgages that were particularly favorable to mortgage borrowers who had their credit profiles impaired. However, according to Knapp (2010), these events did not lead to an explosive growth in the mortgage industry until the securitization of mortgage loans in the late 1990s. The securitization option encouraged the majority of the existing mortgage lenders to adopt a new business model which Knapp (2010) refers to as â€Å"originate to distribute† business model. This new model required that the credit risk posed by the mortgages loans was not exclusively to be absorbed by the lending institutions. Rather, it was to be shared with other investors in the world who purchased the Mortgage-backed securities. Knapp (2010) further argues that by 2006, approximately one-fourth of all new mortgage loans in United States were made to subprime borrowers while the other ratio was securitized and sold to investors in the United States and around the world. The increased demand for high-yield mortgage-backed securities among investors, including institutions such as hedge funds institutions and large banks, led the lenders to ratchet up their marketing efforts. They then came up with new products, which were designed specifically for the sector of the mortgage market in order to persuade individuals who were deemed to be of high credit risks to obtain mortgage loans. Among the most popular of these products were the stated-income† and the â€Å"interest-only† mortgages. The stated-income loan required an applicant to simply report his or her annual income during the application process of the loan (Knapp, 2010). The lender depended on the applicant’s self reported income in the determination of the size of loan that one could afford. According to Knapp (2010), many applicants for the Stated-income loans grossly overstated their annual income so that they could purchase a larger home than was economically feasible given their actual incomes. An individual who obtained the Interest-only mortgage loan was required to pay interests on his
